Luggage-Shipping Service a Great Boon to Weary Travelers

MT. LAUREL, NJ (PRWEB) November 12, 2009 — With the launch of Luggage Ahead (luggageahead.com), travelers tired of dealing with the hassles of checking bags at the airport now have a convenient alternative: shipping ahead and having baggage, skis, golf bags, bicycles and other items waiting for them at their destination. Luggage Ahead offers its services domestically and to most countries abroad.

Luggage shipping is a fairly new concept that has been catching on in recent years. Since airlines have increased baggage fees, luggage-shipping services have become more mainstream. And many travelers who have previously shipped luggage agree that there is no other way to fly. ”Breezing through the airport with nothing to lug is a luxury I can no longer travel without,” said Luggage Ahead customer Brad Messina. “There’s no waiting in lines to check my bags, and there’s no waiting for baggage claim. I’m in and I’m out.”

Company founders Anthony Caruso, Seth Caruso and Daniel Distaso bring years of shipping and logistics experience to Luggage Ahead. Shipping luggage can be complicated because each order must be carefully coordinated and tracked. Luggage Ahead has put together a team of luggage specialists trained to ensure that luggage shipments are delivered on time. According to founding partner Anthony Caruso, top-notch customer service is what separates Luggage Ahead from other options. “The airlines will take your bags for a fee,” Caruso said, “but they are not in the business of luggage shipping. All of us know how frustrating it is to lose a bag.” Catering to varied travel needs, Luggage Ahead guarantees on-time arrival of shipped belongings with its overnight, two-day and three-day services.
Luggage shipping was once considered too expensive for most but now has become more affordable with the additional offering of Luggage Ahead’s economy service. If you can plan to have most of your bags shipped five to seven days in advance, the charges can be competitive with airline fees. When Jamie Wu traveled from Baltimore to Las Vegas, it would have cost him $50 to check his golf clubs on his flight, but by using Luggage Ahead’s economy service, he was spared checking, waiting for and carrying the clubs himself for $67. “For an extra $17, the clubs were waiting for me at the hotel,” Wu said. “I didn’t have to deal with them. It was a no-brainer.” Last-minute packers may have to use Luggage Ahead’s expedited services, but many travelers find that preferable to dragging bags through airports and losing hours of time waiting around.

According to company co-founder Daniel Distaso, luggage shipping is made easy for the traveler. “You place an order online or by phone. Soon before your trip, you will receive a package containing all your shipping labels and instructions. An agent will pick up your bags at your home or place of business, and you’re on your way,” said Distaso. Shipment status and delivery information is e-mailed, called or text-messaged to the customer, depending on preference. Luggage Ahead specialists monitor the safe transportation of customer belongings every step of the way. Each item shipped is insured for $500, with additional insurance available. If items arrive late, Luggage Ahead reimburses the customer and covers additional travel expenses incurred.

Mary Dorice Wills for ConventionTrip.com

“As domestic and international airlines continue to feel the ‘squeeze’ of sky-rocketing fuel prices, they continue to pass increased costs on to consumers. Most of us can make it through a 2-hour flight without paying two bucks for a bottle of water. Few of us, however, have the luxury of traveling with only luggage that is considered “carry-on”. If you must check any luggage, most domestic carriers now charge a fee.

So far, Alaska, Continental and Delta are allowing travelers to check their first bag free of charge (Southwest still allows two checked bags for free). American, U.S. Airways, Northwest and United are charging $15 for the first bag you check. The second bag checked will cost you $25 on most domestic carriers. And, the prices just go up from there for each additional bag you check. If you are a business traveler and must carry displays, heavy A/V equipment, be forewarned: the over-limit (weight and size) fees can be astronomical. Some carriers charge as much as $250 for shipping one over-sized piece.

So, what’s a traveler to do? Whenever possible, travel light; very light. For those for whom traveling light is not an option we began to wonder if there were cheaper ways to ship your luggage than via the airlines. What we found was very interesting; there is no shortage of firms and services that will happily ship your luggage – for a fee – sometimes a hefty fee. ”

<follow the link above for article in its entirety>

Luggage Ahead’s foundation was built on decades of experience in the transportation industry. We ship much more than just luggage. Trade show materials, displays, golfbags, random boxing, and quite literally anything else can be shipped for you. Let us make your travels easier, while puting money back in your pocket.

“What is the Difference Between Using a Luggage Shipping Service and Shipping with FedEx, UPS, or DHL?

Luggage shipping services use FedEx, UPS, and DHL to ship you luggage. Cutting out the middle man and shipping directly with one of these services can save you money if you are willing to ship your luggage days, sometimes even a week, in advance. However, luggage shipping services offer a level of customer service these companies can’t offer.”

We at Luggage Ahead do not exploit the public’s lack of experience with the major carriers. We bridge the gap, uniting their superior services at the right cost, while fulfilling the customers many imminent needs.

Luggage Ahead recently sponsored S.T.A.R.T. II’s “Give Me Shelter” fundraiser in Garfield, NJ. The event took place on Thursday, April 30th, 2009. Save The Animals Rescue Team II (S.T.A.R.T.II) of Bergen and Passaic Counties in New Jersey found homes for nearly 1,000 cats and dogs in 2008. The privately funded shelter also has other programs such as spay and neutering, fostering, transporting, and fundraising.

Luggage Ahead believes strongly in animal rights and the betterment of animals. The company who makes the lives of travelers easier, is trying to do the same for homeless animals. “We are happy to help out such a great cause in any way we can. Between my two partners and I, we have over half a dozen pets. Helping animals without loving homes is very important to us.”, says LuggageAhead’s managing partner Seth Caruso.
“With airlines charging ever higher fees for the right to lose your luggage, you might find it cheaper -- if not safer -- to ship your bag than check it.
Airfarewatchdog put together a handy chart showing how much airlines are charging to check your bag. Most U.S. airlines want you to fork over $15 for your first bag and $25 for the second. If you're one of those people doesn't know the meaning of the phrase "travel light," you're going to pay through the nose if you've got more than two bags or a suitcase that weighs more than 50 pounds.”

By Marshall Loeb, MarketWatch

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) –”If lugging those golf clubs or snowboards through the airport is just more than you can take on your next vacation, consider shipping your bags ahead. A number of delivery services — which contract with the major freight carriers like UPS, FedEx and DHL — will pick up your luggage at your home and deliver it to your destination, even overseas.

That will put at ease the minds of travelers tired of waiting for bags misplaced by the airlines. See previous Marshall Loeb’s Daily Money Tip.
Shipping ahead may be a special benefit for business travelers who can’t run out and buy two new suits when theirs don’t arrive in time for the big meeting or families that travel with four pairs of boots and skis.

Generally, the services allow you to book online or over the phone and someone will arrive at your home or office to pick up your bags. Most companies offer a choice of overnight or economy service; the latter can save you a bunch of money if you don’t mind waiting a few days for those skis to return from the mountains…”
